Mother’s Day Chamber Concert

Join the Wentworth Gardner at 3 o’clock on Saturday, May 14th for a Mother’s Day Chamber Concert! We are pleased to host these prestigious musicians in the south parlor of the Wentworth Gardner House.

Musicians: Brandon Garbot, violin, from Curtis; Adelaya Nartadjieva, violin, from Ensemble Connect; Sun Jin Lee, viola, from Julliard and Curtis; and Caeli Smith, viola, who is a teaching fellow at the New York Philharmonic.

The morning session will familiarize participants with styles, eras, and examples of period moulding. The afternoon session is a hands-on workshop. Participants will take home the examples they create.

Special Exhibit: “Lost Portsmouth”

This exhibit will show some of the many physical changes that have taken place in Portsmouth in recent decades as historic houses, churches, and public buildings have been lost through urban renewal, fire, and other causes. Photos of the structures that have been lost will be displayed, together with what replaced them.

Heirloom Quilting

Instructor: Kristin Goodwillie

Learn essential quilting techniques and produce your very own heirloom style quilt!  The weeks between the sessions will allow individuals time to create the number of squares necessary for their quilt.

“Notable Denizens of Portsmouth’s South Cemetery”

Take a fascinating walk through the history of the South Cemetery with Historian Richard Adams. Richard will focus on some of the more interesting people interred in this very old cemetery which includes Civil War heroes, powerful political figures, murder victims, and many others. Participants will meet at the main cemetery entrance on South Street across from Richards Avenue shortly before 3pm.

Cost: Free. Any donation will be appreciated benefitting the Historic Houses.

Rambin’ Richard

Come and listen as Ramblin’ Richard sings songs and tells stories from World War I, “The War to End All Wars.” Celebrate the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into the war. This event will be held outdoors.
